Most of the Founding Fathers were familiar with Locke’s work. Locke believed in government with some form of checks and balances so that the rights of the people could be protected. He also believed that revolution was a right when a government did not protect the citizens and their rights. Those ideas would find their way into the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.
