Why do so many folks find such a threat in the theory of evolution?
Scientists are only searching for the truth yet you’d think that they are pulling the eye-teeth from the mouths of skeptics!
There are a number of reasons.
The major one is that evolution (as well as many, many other areas of modern science) is incompatible with a literal interpretation of the Bible.
If you accept that the Bible is literally true, then the universe *cannot* be 13 billion years old, and humans *cannot* have evolved from a “lower” animal.
Therefore, if your faith is based on a literal interpretation of the Bible, and a belief in its absolute truth, then evolution cannot be true.
From the point of view of the fundamentalist, an acceptance of the literal truth of the Bible is an absolute requirement for getting into heaven. Therefore any “evidence” that suggests otherwise is a threat to your chances of entering heaven: worse, it threatens the chances of *everyone* getting into heaven. Sinc this cannot be part of God’s plan, it follows that such “evidence” is (at best) a dangerous delusion or (at worst) a Satanic trick to keep people away from salvation.
So, a common tactic is to pull the wool over people’s eyes about what the actual evidence for evolution is, and prevent them understanding the theory fully. Once you have succeeded in doing this, it is fairly easy to convince them of evolution’s untruth (especially as many of their objections require a deep understanding of science to be able to refute).
Another common objection is simple aestheics :”Eeew! I didn’t come from no monkey.”
Of course, none of these objections are rational: they are based either on faith or on aestheics, and rational argument cannot get around these irrational objections.
Because it is basically stating that some beliefs about the bible are wrong, which would domino and cause some believers to start to think that other things are wrong and eventually become against that religion
Because it’s all too easy for a person who has accepted evolution to denounce religion. Once you see one aspect of a religion being faulty, you question them all. Religious leaders and pundits therefore see evolution as a threat to their doctrines, because it disproves and discredits their doctrines.
Because some people are not open-minded enough to accept that God could of used evolution to make us and take the Bible MUCH too literally and are just plain ignorant.

Because the theory goes against the theory of creation.
